Motorola has already started the year bringing several novelties in its smartphones, focused on serving different audiences. Among the releases, the Moto e13 is an entry-level model with a simple technical sheet for those looking for a primary cell phone or wanting to spend less.
The device hits the market with two versions, a very modest one with 32 GB and another with 64 GB with more firepower and a battery that promises good autonomy. But is the Moto e13 any good?
Design And Connections
As it is a cheaper cell phone, the Moto e13 surprises by having a slightly more refined design and finish than older models of the Moto E line. The back is smooth and made of plastic; it has the Motorola logo centralized in the middle and a frame of the same color as the housing to house the rear camera. The consumer can choose between graphite, white and green colors. The front camera’s screen and a drop-shaped notch occupy the front part.
On the left side, we only have the triple drawer for two chips and space for a memory card. This is a positive point since those who choose the 32GB version may need to expand the internal memory with little use time. The right side is reserved for the volume buttons and power buttons. The bottom has a microphone for calls, USB-C input and a speaker. The top has the Dolby Atoms logo and headphone jack, even though the accessory no longer comes with the box.
A negative point of the Moto e13 is the absence of a fingerprint reader and facial recognition. Currently, even simple devices have different security mechanisms against unwanted access on the smartphone and to protect transactions in bank applications, for example. As for connections, it has the basics: dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0, with no support for NFC.
Screen
The Moto e13 screen has IPS LCD technology, 6.5 inches, HD+ resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. Motorola did not bring big news to the display, so much so that these settings could already be seen in older devices. Not even the 90Hz refresh rate, already much more common today, was a manufacturer’s choice. The edges are also not so thin and apparent, especially the device’s bottom edge.
In terms of quality, it’s a good screen, and it’s just essential for 2023. The user will be able to consume its contents smoothly, and the brightness levels are not surprising and can even be low when used in the sun.
Performance
The only difference between the two versions of the Moto e13 is in terms of performance. The processor present in both models is the Unison T606. At the time of purchase, the user can choose between 32GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM or 64GB of interior space with 4GB of RAM. The first is very simple for current parameters, while the 64GB has specifications within the range of the most basic entry-level smartphones.
The Moto e13 processor is good for the category; the problem is the little firepower of the other components on the technical sheet. In 2023, for the Android system to work correctly without hiccups and crashes, the recommended minimum is 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. However, it is a good thing for usability. But it must be borne in mind that the Moto e13 will not run games and heavy applications well, restricting its use to basic day-to-day applications such as watching videos, browsing social networks, searching the internet and others, such as WhatsApp, for example.
The model comes standard with Android 13 Go, a simplified version of the latest operating system update. The bad news is that Motorola will not release updates for the device’s system or the security packages.
Camera
The camera present in the Moto e13 has only a 13 MP primary sensor and a 5 MP front camera. They are fundamental sensors, and the user may be limited when making their records. And as you’d expect, it doesn’t have a lot of features. The highlight is the support for HDR10 and night mode, even if they could be more efficient. It will still be possible to take photos in environments with good lighting conditions but nothing extraordinary.
Battery
The Moto e13 battery has 5,000 mAh, and the device comes with a simple 10W charger. At least the battery is within the standards of new smartphones and has an autonomy of up to 2 days without needing a new charge, depending on the intensity of use.
